Nigerian singers Omah Lay and Tems were picked up by Uganda police on Sunday after they allegedly violated COVID-19 restrictions at The Big Brunch Concert held in Kampala.
Both musicians had performed at the event. They were arrested alongside Tems manager Muyiwa Awoniyi and detained at the Katwe Police Station. Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luk Owoyesigyire confirmed that manager of the venue Dungu Ivan, event manager Prim Kasana and three police officers – including the charge officer of the police station in the area – were also arrested. ....

The release order for Tems read:
“WHEREAS the Accused person A TEMILADE OPENYI was charged with the offence of Neglect act likely to spread of infectious disease Section 171 of Penal Code Act.
“The charges against the accused A TEMILADE OPENYI has been withdrawn against them Vide Withdrawal Form Serial No, 4292 dated 1st December 2020.
“This is to direct you to release the said A. TEMILADE OPENYI from your custody forthwith unless held on other charges.”
The duo was arrested in Uganda by Katwe Police after performing at a concert in the country. They were arrested alongside the manager of the venue one Dungu Ivan and the Events manager Prim Kasana. ....

The trio of Stanley Didia, aka Omah Lay; Temilade Openyi, alias Ms Tems; and Muyiwa Awomiyi have been remanded in a prison in Uganda. Omah Lay was remanded at Kitalya prison and Ms Tems at Kigo prison.
They were charged in a magistrate court in Makindye, Uganda, yesterday for “negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious disease C/S 171 of the Penal Code Act.”
The Ugandan police said earlier plans of releasing them on police bond were suspended after their casefile was sanctioned by the Office of the DPP. They were jointly charged with four other Ugandans and remanded till Wednesday. ....

Nigerian musicians, Stanley Omah Didia, a.k.a Omah Lay, and Temilade Openiyi a.k.a Tems, have been released after three days in the Uganda police cell over violation of the country’s COVID-19 laws.
This was made known by a Ugandan journalist, Canary Mugume, who took to his Twitter handle to announce the release.
He tweeted: “Breaking: Nigerian artists @Omah Lay and @temsbaby have been released 5 minutes ago and might fly out tonight, @Lukowoyesigyire has confirmed. #NBSUpdates @nbstv.”  ....

Nigerian Artistes Omah Lay, Tems To Be Remanded In Ugadan Police Custody


 
Nigerian artistes, Omah Lay and Ms Tems will remain in the custody of the Uganda Police Force till Wednesday, December 16.
The police force announced this on Monday via its official Twitter handle.
This was after the fast-rising Nigerian stars were arraigned at a court in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city.
The Uganda police force said earlier plans of releasing them on police bond were suspended after their casefile was sanctioned by the Office of the DPP.
