UCR announces plan to host an in-person graduation ceremony for 2020 and 2021 graduates

COVID-19 information and guidelines regarding county tier assignments and vaccine eligibility are changing at a rapid rate. Last week, Riverside entered the orange tier of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy and opened up vaccine eligibility for residents 16 years and older following governor Gavin Newsom’s plan to fully reopen the economy on June 15. 
With these changes, UCR has announced that it will host in-person commencement activities for the graduating classes of 2020 and 2021. From Saturday, June 12 through Monday, June 14, graduates may sign up for blocks of time to walk across a stage individually as their name is read and have their photo taken on stage in academic regalia. The venue for the event has not been solidified but it may be held at the Student Recreation Center North Gymnasium or University Theatre. No guests will be permitted inside ....

ASUCR polishes up Elections Code in preparation for 2021 Elections

With ASUCR elections right around the corner, ASUCR is patching up discrepancies within their Elections Code and gearing up for spring quarter.
The ninth ASUCR meeting of the winter quarter on March 3 also marked the final State of the Association meeting of the quarter.
During LRC, the senate approved an amendment to the Elections Code to remove the deadline to file a violation form on the elections website. Previously, violations were subject to a 2-day limit for filing; however, the senate bill states that all violations are essential and must be addressed. SB-W21-007 Amendment to Elections Code to Remove Deadline to File a Violation passed with a vote of 9-0-7.  ....

ASUCR writes letter to UCR administration outlining their recommendations for a smooth fall 2021 reopening

On Jan. 11, University of California (UC) President Michael V. Drake officially announced that UC campuses plan to allow in-person learning in fall 2021. The decision was made with the consultation of the 10 UC campuses chancellors. Since then, ASUCR has drafted a list of recommendations to Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox and Interim Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Thomas Smith. These recommendations outline UCR student recommendations and desires for the reopening of campus.

The letter outlined the recommendations into four sections: academic continuity, COVID-19 vaccine and testing accessibility, student health wellness and basic needs and addressing concerns with policing and campus safety. The recommendations were created from the results gathered through a systemwide survey, the COVID Impact Survey, sent in fall 2020.  ....
