There were 441 emergency lock ins over the past three months across Queensland. “We receive roughly four calls a day to rescue a child or animal trapped in a car, and while lock ins are usually accidental, it can be a really scary situation to be in as a parent or carer,” RACQ spokeswoman Lucinda Ross said. “The vast majority of accidental lock ins happen when the child has been given a set of keys to play with and they’ve pressed the lock button, so it highlights the importance of keeping your keys secure. “On top of these emergency lock ins, we had a further 8,433 Queenslanders call RACQ for help when they locked themselves out of their vehicles.” ....

That is the message from the RACQ after it revealed its Roadside Assistance patrols responded to more than 600 drivers who had put the wrong fuel in their vehicles last year. While it was a simple mistake to make, the motoring organisation warned it could result in costly repairs. RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said distraction was often the leading cause. “Sometimes it’s a simple mistake because they’re driving a hire car or a vehicle they’ve borrowed from a friend or family member,” she said. “Other times, the driver may be confused by looking for a certain coloured nozzle at the pump, because that’s what they’re used to at their local and they don’t double check the label. ....

Newly-released RACQ Bank data revealed bank account and mortgage holders have been staying loyal to financial institutions for decades because of the perceived difficulty of switching, with 53 per cent of account holders with the same bank for more than a decade. Another 31 per cent had stayed for more than 20 years, and 38 per cent had never switched from their first everyday bank. RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said the data found just 12 per cent of Queenslanders intended on switching banks in 2021, with 40 per cent of those surveyed saying the task was simply too difficult. ....
