BRASILIA, May 18 (Reuters) - Brazil’s lower house of Congress on Wednesday will vote on a presidential decree proposing the privatization of state-run power company Eletrobras, house leader Arthur Lira said on Tuesday.
Lower house lawmakers began debating the measure on Tuesday afternoon.
“It is important that there is a wide debate on the topic. We have an agreement that, out of respect for the Senate, we give senators 30 days to analyze presidential decrees,” Lira tweeted.
Eletrobras Chief Executive Rodrigo Limp said last Thursday that Lira had indicated his optimism that the vote would be carried. ....

SAO PAULO, May 4 (Reuters) - U.S.-based Largo Clean Energy is preparing to produce batteries using vanadium extracted from northeastern Brazil, the company s chief executive said on Tuesday, in a bid to capture a chunk of the fast-growing renewable energy storage market.
The company, whose parent Largo Resources Ltd is mining the elemental metal in the Brazilian state of Bahia, is in advanced negotiations with potential clients, said Paulo Misk, CEO of the Largo group. He says the firm s vanadium batteries are lower cost and last longer than rival solutions, such as lithium. ....

SAO PAULO, April 28 (Reuters) - Brazilian power utility Cemig is planning an initial public offering of its gas distribution unit and a wave of divestments, executives said on Wednesday, and the company’s shares rose over 4% after the news.
During an online investors’ event, executives said they planned to sell off some 9 billion reais ($1.66 billion) in assets through 2025, including the company’s stake in the massive Belo Monte and Santo Antonio hydroelectric dams.
As part of that divestment drive, the company, formally Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais SA, also plans to sell its stake in Alianca Energia, a joint power generation venture with Brazilian mining company Vale SA, the executives said. ....
