LuAnn Ackerson passed away on Sept. 21, 2023 surrounded by her husband, Dennis, and sister, Nancy, after a short battle with acute leukemia. LuAnn was born in Spring Grove, Mn., the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth Ellingson. She graduated from the University of Mn. with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned a Master of Science degree from the School of Public Health with a specialty in Community Mental Health. She worked as a Fairview Deaconess Nursing Instructor in Minneapolis, as an Urgent Care/Emergency Nurse Therapist at Park Nicollet Clinic in St. Louis Park, Mn. and as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Mental Health at the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Cloud, Mn. retiring in 2016. For many Native American Veterans, and others, LuAnn was the chosen therapist. The impact on and help she gave to her patients is immeasurable and her greatest accomplishment.
