Lt Gen Pradeep Chandran Nair, Director General of Assam Rifles, reaffirmed the force s commitment to modernize its equipment profile and enhance manpower skills. He praised Assam Rifles personnel for their role in counter-insurgency operations in the region and in Kashmir. Nair highlighted efforts to acquire state-of-the-art weapons, surveillance, and protective equipment. The force is also focusing on cybersecurity and signed an MoU with universities to upskill manpower. Assam Rifles received accolades, including unit citations, for their performance in 2023-24.
"The Assam Rifles in the year 2020 seized Rs 857 crore of illegally traded goods and around Rs 746 crore in 2021," Assam Rifles Director General said. "The force has been at the helm of affairs to counter illegal trade along the 1,643-km porous and unfenced India-Myanmar border. The whole region is of great importance from an economic and strategic point of view," he said.
Assam Rifles provides security to the northeastern region and has a diversified role ranging from security to providing welfare, and developmental assistance to the people.
