LPG Price Cut: The Indian government is expected to freeze LPG prices for the rest of the fiscal year, following a reduction of Rs 200 per cylinder. This move is estimated to save customers around Rs 18,500 crore. Despite the price cut, state-run fuel retailers still have a profit of over Rs 100 per domestic refill. The government has committed to compensating them for any potential losses.
BJP insiders say ground reports and surveys revealed that price rise was contributing to dissatisfaction among women voters and its strategists wanted the government to take steps to address it.
