Next month, Sandwich voters will be asked to begin implementing the townâs ambitious water cleanup plan, which includes engineering sewer pipe layouts and other wastewater infrastructure.
Specifically, taxpayers will be asked to approve the first disbursement of funds from a special water infrastructure investment fund, better known by its nickname, âWIIF.â
âThis will get us on the pathâ toward a $80 million, 25-year plan to clean up Sandwichâs ponds and properly dispose of its wastewater, Town Manager George H. (Bud) Dunham told members of the Sandwich Finance Committee this week.
At the May 3 annual Town Meeting, the public will be asked to allocate $1 million of the fund for preliminary engineering reports on collecting and moving sewage as well as its treatment and disposal.
