Brown: LMSD in school year 2021-22 will have its hands full


When I first met Superintendent Robert Copeland in a one-on-one advice interview regarding a high school program which I was designing, I addressed him, with all due respect, as Dr. Copeland.
Without any hesitation, he graciously corrected me to say that his title was “Mr.” and that he did not hold a doctorate.
In that first year with Lower Merion School District, the surety and confidence which he demonstrated immediately conveyed to me that he was unpretentious, strategic, and “all business.”

That meeting early in his tenure was followed by participating together on a panel of four educators presenting in the Harriton Career Symposia. ....

By now you have heard about the effort by the Federation of Civic Associations of Lower Merion and Narberth to help resolve the problems associated with building athletics fields for the proposed LMSD third middle school on the former Clairemont Farm in Villanova.
It is very important to understand that Lower Merion School District is experiencing - and anticipating - ongoing enrollment growth due to densification.
In retrospect, we need to acknowledge that Superintendent Robert Copeland, Melissa Gilbert, former Lower Merion School Board President and current Vice President, and LMSD Staff have been monitoring the urbanization of the eastern end of the township for years. ....
