Stanmer Park: parking permits would have to 'deter' commuters and students

Now the council has defended the charges and said that any annual permit would have to be set at a prohibitively high price in order to deter certain people from parking at the park, including commuters and people at the universities .
Joy Flowers, who launched the petition on Change.org, said she has spoken to people who are incandescent that a free pensioners pass or an affordable annual permit has not been offered.
The 67-year-old said: Two councillors have now said any permit would need to be a whopping £360 per year to be in line with the charge levied on the university campus. ....

The council said the changes were introduced in response to concerns from residents and visitors about parking problems in the park during the day .
It comes after a petition was launched to rescind parking charges for regular walkers at the park and for an affordable annual parking permit to be offered instead.
More than 1,400 people have now signed the petition on change.org, started by pensioner Joy Flowers.
The 67-year-old said: It seems to lots of us that the council is just not listening.
It s a tax on exercise. There s a lot of people I know who won t be able to afford the car parking. ....

Parking charges at Stanmer Park, Brighton, come into force today

New parking charges at Stanmer Park in Brighton come into force today.
Brighton and Hove City Council say the charges have been introduced in response to concerns from residents and visitors about parking problems in the park during the day .
The new measures have also been designed to protect the heritage of the Grade-II listed Historic Park and Garden which is currently undergoing a £5.1 million restoration project, a spokesman for the authority said.
