A storm that swept through Southwestern Pennsylvania on Thursday downed trees and left about 28,700 customers of West Penn Power and Duquesne Light Co. without power in Westmoreland, Allegheny and Washington counties. Duquesne Light Co. reported it had 68 outages impacting 10,524 customers in Allegheny County as of 10 p.m.

Upper Burrell officials want to make sure PennDOT is aware of the extent of drainage issues with its drainage pipe from Route 780 and surrounding properties that discharge to Lower Drennan Road.
During their meeting Wednesday, supervisors temporarily shelved development plans for a Dollar General along Route 780 at Dewey Drive until the developer irons out the drainage problem and PennDOT fixes it.
The stormwater drainage for the store has become an issue because the store developers are proposing to use a PennDOT drainage pipe that is broken.
