Displaced. on august 30, 2005, the hurricane made landfall. the entire coast of mississippi was wiped off the map. and the levees that protected the parish in new orleans lower 9th broke. many americans were just realizing the horror unfolding along the gulf south. cameras could not get to mississippi. in new orleans, water 6 to 8 deep or higher. those who made out had nowhere to go. and then the second major levee broke and water covered 80 percent of the city. leaders call for anyone with a boat to come and help with the rescues but that process was chaos and few of the boaters got instructions at all. at the time an estimated 50,000 to 100,000 were huddled on the roofs of underwater homes or in the superdome or in the new orleans convention center. here is how it unfolded on fox news five years ago today. ....
