Lessons in lockdown: The power of second chances Date: January 12, 2021 By Shamiso Chigorimbo Johannesburg, 1 February: Richard Yates words, “if you don’t try anything, you can’t fail,” resonate as I look back at the last 24 months as a PhD candidate, then part- time consultant, now returning to GL tail between my legs. As I reflect, I cringe at the number of mistakes I made. No regrets: just lessons and experience. I left GL in 2019 to pursue a PHD at the University of KwaZulu Natal, juggling school with being a single mother. 2020 was an unprecedented year, a global health crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic that catapulted organisations and individuals into survival mode. Things did not work for me in KZN. I moved to Cape Town and re-joined GL in late 2020. ....
SADC: GL welcomes new ED and two new board members Date: January 15, 2021 For immediate release: Johannesburg, 14 January: The Gender Links (GL) Board is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director, Kubi Rama (South Africa) and two board members, Marie Annick Savripenne (Mauritius) and Celine Marie Yolande (Madagascar) effective 1 January 2021. Rama served as Deputy CEO and brings more than 25 years of experience to the position. The incoming Board members, Yolande, is the President of Federation Pour la Promotin Feminine et Enfantine (FPPE) in Madagascar, while Savripene is a renowned journalist and editor in Mauritius. “I would like to thank the Gender Links Association, Board and particularly Colleen Lowe Morna, outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO), for their confidence and trust.
