As India prepares for its Chandrayaan-3 mission to the Moon, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is conducting an extensive study of the lunar traffic patterns to ensure safe exploration. Currently, there are six active lunar orbiters around the Moon with defunct spacecraft and repositioned orbiters further complicating the orbital environment. The upcoming addition of Russias Luna 25 lander and rover duo in August 2023 highlights the significance of effective space traffic management in lunar exploration endeavors. ISRO is partnering with international bodies to establish guidelines and best practices for enduring viability of space operations in lunar and cislunar regions.
