• Extends development plans to 30 communities Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu(left); Deputy Speaker, state’s House of Assembly, Wasiu Sanni Eshilokun, during the groundbreaking of the New Massey Children Hospital at Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island. The Lagos State government has jump-started its urban renewal scheme in the Island Central Business District with the commencement of road and health infrastructure in Adeniji Adele and its environs. The proposed project includes a 150 bed new Massey Street Children Pediatrics Hospital, reconstruction and upgrade of Adeniji Adele and Tapa/Oke Popo Streets roads. Massey Hospital was established in 1914 as the first General Outpatient Clinic and Referral Centre in Lagos State and was converted to a full-fledged Pediatrics Hospital in 1961. ....
â¢New Hospital to be in 7-Storey, Operates on IPP â¢Governor Kicks off Massive Rehabilitation of Adeniji Adele Road, Two Other Streets Massey Street Children Hospital – the century old secondary health facility on the Lagos Island and a birthplace of prominent Lagosians – is now to be upgraded and relocated to a convenient site. The single-storey 85-bed paediatrics facility, established in 1914, is currently overstretched to meet the care demands of children because of the increasing number of patients it receives daily; the inadequacy prompted the State Governmentâs move to upgrade the hospital in order to meet the needs of the residents. ....
Flagging off both roads and hospital project, Sanwo-Olu enumerated benefits of good road network for ease of doing business and accessibility to quality healthcare to reduce infants and maternal mortality. Sanwo-Olu said that the construction of the New Massey Children’s Hospital and the reconstruction of the Adeniji Adele, Oke Popo and Tapa Street were an integral part of the Greater Lagos Vision. He said that the strategic roads would add value to the New Massey Children’s Hospital being reconstructed and upgraded into a seven storey, 150-bed multipurpose Pediatrics and General Hospital. He listed various ministries working together on the regeneration of the roads as part of the Lagos Island Area North Action Plan to address flooding, gridlock and other challenges on the axis. ....
