Allegro Acres to expand greenhouse pepper acreage under LEDs

Allegro Acres is expanding its acreage of LED-lit greenhouse peppers from four to 12 acres for winter production.
The first of its kind to take place on a commercial-scale in Canada, the initial four acres of greenhouse LEDs were installed in 2020 and produced a successful crop of peppers this past winter.
According to the President of Allegro Acres, Gene Ingratta, Allegro will be installing additional LEDs this summer, in time for use in early October. Allegro will also be implementing light abatement measures to comply with greenhouse lighting bylaws announced in the municipality late last year, as well as a high pressure misting system to help control temperature and humidity. ....

Greenhouse producer harvests first crop of winter peppers in Canada

The first crop of winter-produced Canadian greenhouse peppers, grown under LED lighting, has been harvested.
Located in Kingsville, Ont., family-owned greenhouse Allegro Acres seeded red, yellow and orange commercial-grade peppers last Oct. and harvested in Dec. before shipping to grocery stores.

“Sollum’s smart LED technology has been very reassuring and comforting throughout the process because we know that every day, when we wake up, we can now control everything that’s going on in our greenhouse,” says Gene Ingratta, president of Allegro Acres. “We don’t have to worry if the sun is going to come out or not. It’s now sunny every day, and we can adjust the greenhouses’ lighting in real-time as climate conditions change during the day.” ....
