NOFX frontman Fat Mike is “super happy” after reaching three months of sobriety. The longtime drinker and drug user successfully completed rehab after writing NOFX’s new album and experiencing a frightening medical issue while hanging out with Avenged Sevenfold. Any fan who s watched Backstage Passport knows the depths of Fat Mike’s former substance abuse, which eventually brought the punk veteran to detox in 2016. Like many users, Mike’s initial attempt to sober up didn’t take, but the bassist and vocalist has maintained his sobriety since roughly Halloween. “I used to always say that rehab wasn’t for me,” Fat Mike tells Spin. “I went to detox once, but that was only for six days. This time, the band wanted me to go to rehab, which really pissed me off because at the time I was riding my bike five days a week, I was in good shape, and I wasn’t using very much except for like two or three days a week which I felt pretty good about.” ....
Punk legends NOFX have just announced their 14th studio album, Single Album, and released its first single, “Linewleum.” Dedicated to the hundreds of bands who’ve covered NOFX’s classic “Linoleum” over the years, the new song features a lead from Avenged Sevenfold, who also appear in its official music video alongside August Burns Red, Tony Sly, Frank Turner and others. Single Album was initially supposed to be a double album, but frontman Fat Mike bailed on the idea partway through the writing process. “When you write a double album, you write differently,” Mike says. “I was writing really different songs, and some fun songs, but you have to make a double album interesting enough to listen to the whole way. I wanted to make a perfect double album, and I didn t accomplish that. So I decided to just make a single album, hence the title.” ....
