LOS ANGELES (KABC) With Los Angeles County pushing closer to the milestone of 1 million coronavirus cases, health officials have announced plans to dramatically ramp up vaccinations by expanding the eligibility list and establishing five large sites capable of administering up to 5,000 vaccine doses daily.
All health care workers in the county can now be inoculated, which includes but is not limited to those who work in urgent care or primary care clinics, dental offices or pharmacies. Previously, only frontline workers in hospitals and nursing homes were allowed to get the shot. ....

'Worst is yet to come' - LA County projects worsening surge in COVID-19 deaths, hospitalizations


LOS ANGELES (KABC) Once again, Los Angeles County is reporting devastating new numbers for COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations, indicating the post-Thanksgiving surge continues to worsen as the holidays arrive.
The county reported 145 new deaths on Wednesday, the highest one-day total since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
The county also reported 16,525 new coronavirus cases, the highest number aside from a day earlier this month that included a backlog of older cases.
Dr. Christina Ghaly, director of the county Department of Health Services, warned hospitals are having extreme difficulty dealing with the surge of patients, impacting their ability to treat them as well as deal with non-coronavirus emergencies and surgeries. ....
