Truck booking agents have extended support to the indefinite strike call given by the State Lorry Owners’ Federation and they will not take bookings from December 26.
Members of Tamil Nadu Lorry Booking Agents Federation passed a resolution supporting the State-wide strike announced by lorry owners here. Raja Vadivel, president of the association, said that booking agents across the State would not be take bookings for transportation of goods from December 26. The federation said that, however, supply of essential goods such as milk and vegetables would not be affected by the strike.

They are planning an indefinite strike from December 27
Lorry owners in the State have appealed to the Chief Minister and the Transport Minister to call them for talks immediately to address their charter of demands and avert an indefinite truckers’ strike from December 27.
The strike call, given by the State Lorry Owners’ Federation, Tamil Nadu, has received the backing of the South Zone Motor Transporters’ Welfare Association (SIMTA), an apex organisation of truckers, transporters and passenger vehicle operators.
‘Last resort’ Addressing the media in Tiruchi on Monday, SIMTA general secretary G.R. Shanmugappa said the lorry owners had been pressing the State government to concede their eight-point charter of demands for the past six months, and had decided to go on strike as the last resort.

He will offer prayers at Sendraya Perumal temple first
Chief Minister and AIADMK co-coordinator Edappadi. K.Palaniswami on Friday said that he would be launching his campaign for the 2021 Assembly election from Salem on Saturday.
Mr. Palaniswami held discussions on poll preparations with AIADMK functionaries from the Salem rural district unit at the party office. “I would be starting the election campaign at my constituency Edappadi after offering prayers at Sendraya Perumal temple in Periyasoragai, Mettur,” he told mediapersons. “Since I have to visit other places, I would not be able to visit the constituency often. Hence, considering the request from party cadres, I would be launching party’s election campaign from here,” he said.
