COMPOSER Paul Dean’s new work, “Symphony”, is the commissioned centrepiece of three concerts throughout the country by the Australian World Orchestra, playing under the baton of conductor Alexander Briger. The piece is Australian at its core, with a homage to the sounds of sunrise by the riverbank and the drama of an early morning Brisbane storm. Its world premiere will be seen at Llewellyn Hall, 7.30pm, this Wednesday, June 2, book here. 
CANBERRA Theatre Centre will showcase new work by ACT students in the 7th annual “ACT UP! Festival”, with the theme “New Normal”, culminating in a performance featuring talent from Alfred Deakin High School, Batemans Bay High School, Campbell High School, Canberra College, UCSSC Lake Ginninderra College, St Edmunds College, St Francis Xavier College, Telopea Park School, St John Paul II College and Marist College. EXPECTATIONS of what musical treats the Canberra Symphony Orchestra might present in “Llewellyn One”, the first major subscription series concert for the year, probably did not include deadly sins, dance music for elephants, disco, Dixieland and doom metal alongside images of forests and gladiators. 
But such was the adventurous and innovative programming chosen by Jessica Cottis to formally mark her introduction in her new role as artistic advisor and conductor for the orchestra. What a way to make an impact!
Stravinsky wrote his “Circus Polka” as ballet music with the first performance in New York in 1942, featuring a cast of 50 elephants and 50 beautiful girls. ....

Maestro Johannes Fritzsch named Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser of Queensland Symphony Orchestra

Johannes Fritzsch, one of Australia’s leading international conductors, has been named Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s new Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser; it is a very welcome return for the world-class Maestro.
“The appointment of Maestro Fritzsch as QSO’s new Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser extends until 2023, and we are thrilled and honoured that he has agreed to return to the fold to provide the orchestra with outstanding and unequalled artistic leadership,” said QSO Chair Mr Chris Freeman.
“Maestro Fritzsch remains integral to the Queensland Symphony Orchestra,” he said. “He is one of the great musical leaders, a conductor we can credit with building the QSO into the world class orchestra it is today, one that is spoken of in concert halls everywhere for its musicality and integrity.
