PEORIA (WEEK) The Peoria County coroner has identified the man who was found dead near the Illinois River in Peoria on Sunday.
Jason Rutherford, 43, of Peoria, died of blunt force trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at the foot of Lorentz Avenue, said Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Peoria Park Police discovered Rutherford s body in a grassy area between the river and a paved parking lot at around 6:40 a.m. Sunday. Several feet away was an ATV, according to authorities.
Rutherford s death, said Harwood, appears to be an accident and no foul play is suspected. ....

Peoria Park District police found Rutherford s body while on routine patrol early Sunday morning on Lorentz Avenue, just north of the McClugage Bridge and at the foot of Grandview Drive.
He was found in a grassy area between the river and a paved parking lot, with an ATV nearby.
The incident remains under investigation by the Peoria Police Traffic Unit, Peoria Police Department spokeswoman Amy Dotson said on Monday. ....

Peoria police investigating death of man near Illinois River

PEORIA Peoria police are investigating what happened to a person they found dead near the Illinois River early Sunday morning.
Foul play is not suspected, and initial investigation indicates the death appears accidental, according to Peoria Police Department spokeswoman Amy Dotson. The Peoria County Coroner s Office will later release the identity and manner and cause of death, she said.
At 6:39 a.m., officers responded to Lorentz Avenue just north of the McClugage Bridge on a report of a man whose body had been found by a Peoria Park District Police officer on routine patrol.
The body was located in a grassy area between the river and a paved parking lot. Several feet away from the body was an all-terrain vehicle. The man had obvious signs of trauma and was deceased at the scene, Dotson said. ....
