Premier announces multi-million-dollar upgrade to crucial outback weir


JOINT STATEMENT
The Palaszczuk Government will deliver more than $1 million to support the Longreach Regional Council to complete emergency repairs on one of west Queensland’s most important sources of water.
While in Longreach holding regional Cabinet today, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced $1.2 million to repair the Isisford Weir.
“Water is our most important resource, particularly in proud agricultural communities here in West Queensland,” the Premier said.
“We know that to rebuild our economy, we must invest in new infrastructure and safeguard our water supply – that’s what today’s announcement is all about.
“I asked the Mayor what his number one concern was for Longreach and he said the Weir. ....

Heart of Australia has been boosted with a new DAF XF 350 about to hit the road to deliver specialist medical treatment in regional, rural, and remote communities across Queensland.
Federal Member for Wright and Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport, Scott Buchholz joined Dr Rolf Gomes and Minister for Regional Health, Mark Coulton to launch HEART4 – a DAF XF 530 Prime Mover.

Car collides with road work machinery on highway

UPDATE 2.30PM: The highway has reopened and three people have been hospitalised following a crash involving a car and road works machinery at Longreach.
The three patients sustained minor injuries and were taken to Longreach Hospital in a stable condition.
Police advised the scene was clear and the Landsborough Highway had reopened in both directions.
INITIAL 12.15PM: Four people have been injured in a car and steam roller crash along the Landsborough Highway at Longreach.
Two Queensland Ambulance Service crews are at the site of the incident on the corner of Jabiru Street and the highway, which was reported about 11.20am. ....

'We love the outback': CQ to host next Cabinet meeting

A Central Queensland town has been selected to host the next regional Cabinet meeting in May, as part of the Premier’s commitment to take Cabinet to the outback.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the meeting would be held in Longreach to support Queensland’s economic recovery and to showcase the best of the bush.
“My government is committed to getting out and about in our communities, and one of the best ways we can do that is by holding regional Cabinet meetings outside of Brisbane,” she said.
“Since we have been re-elected, we have been to Townsville and we have had an off site visit to Ipswich, and I can announce that I am taking my Cabinet out west. We love the outback.” ....
