The carcass of a bear was discovered in an agriculture field in Channalinganahalli, Mysuru. Autopsy was conducted and the postmortem report is awaited. In another incident, a leopardess and its cub were rescued and released into the forest.
The fourth tiger safari in Chamarajanagar, launched by the forest department at PG Palya in the MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in Hanur taluk last month, has garnered positive responses from the visitors. The safari operates on a pilot basis during weekends and has attracted 575 tourists and 60 students since its launch on December 2. The forest department has generated revenue of Rs 1.9 lakh.
Wildlife in the area includes tigers, leopards, Indian hare, sambar and spotted deer, Indian gaur and a large variety of avian species. The route also runs along the elephant corridor, making encounters with wild elephants a possibility.
The carcasses of a tigress and a cub were found on a private piece of land on the border of Veluru and Terakanambi villages. Postmortem was conducted and an investigation has been launched to know the cause of death as the carcasses had decomposed. Learn more about this incident.
