Airwallex co-founder Lucy Liu is used to being asked what it’s like to be a female entrepreneur, yet it’s not her gender that defined her early experience helping drive one of the country’s fastest-growing fintech companies.
The 30-year-old commerce graduate, who grew up in China and New Zealand before coming to Australia for university, was 25 when she co-founded the payments technology business alongside chief executive officer Jack Zhang, head of design Max Li, chief technology officer Jacob (Xijing) Dai and principal architect Ki-Lok Wong. For Liu, her youth is what made her different.
“In some industries, it’s very normal to have young founders. But in fintech, it still feels like a very technical [field]. A lot of the difficulties I felt in the early days were to do with how young I was,” she tells ....
