(KAIT) - When a former reserve deputy was arrested on federal weapons charges, investigators say they caught him with a meth pipe in his hand. Jason Wolfenbarger, 40, of Paragould appeared before a federal judge Wednesday on a charge of the sale or transfer of a firearm to a prohibited person. According to the probable cause affidavit, on April 28 an informant told an FBI special agent that they were “familiar with Wolfenbarger and had seen him smoke meth.” ....

(KAIT) - For the first time in months, an update was given on the status of the future I-57. The proposed interstate would connect Highway 67 from Walnut Ridge to the Missouri state line, which would be just over 40 miles. Officials from the Arkansas Department of Transportation met with dozens of city and county officials Friday morning at Williams Baptist University. ArDOT officials say the planning period for the future I-57 should be over by late 2022. This after they recently began an environmental study of three proposed routes: one utilizing much of the existing Highway 67, one creating a new central location, and the other running a new location, east of the Black River. ....

In a 5-4 vote, the Randolph County Quorum Court voted to select Ronald Barnett as the new judge over three other candidates. He’ll prepare to take office as current County Judge David Jansen announced his retirement back in March. (KAIT) - Thursday, April 8, marks one year since a tornado touched down just north of Harrisburg. Packing 125 mile an hour winds, the EF-2 twister damaged dozens of businesses and homes. Poinsett County sheriff’s deputies spent the night going door-to-door, searching for victims and checking on residents. The April 8 storm damaged several homes across the area.
