Movies have been made in Louisiana for decades. The first Tarzan was filmed in Morgan City in 1917. Interview with a Vampire was filmed in and around New Orleans in 1989.
A 2018 film study indicated that 10% of all visitors to the state come because they were inspired by a movie or tv show that was filmed here.
This afternoon, The Louisiana Forest Service presented information the impact a new movie being filmed in the Kisatchie National Forest has on Vernon Parish. Forest Service presenters were Lisa Lewis, Kisatchie Supervisor, Jonny Fryar Ranger for Calasieu District, Ron Fisher Deputy Ranger and Stacey Bloomquist, Public Affairs Specialist.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Displaying quality and depth in various events, the Razorbacks opened the 2021 campaign with a dominant victory in the Arkansas Invitational held Saturday inside Randal Tyson Track Center.
Totaling 229 points, the Razorbacks topped a seven-team field which included Oklahoma (118), Arkansas State (61), and Harding (30).
“No. 1 we’re super excited we got our opener out of the way and everybody is healthy,” noted Arkansas women’s head coach Lance Harter. “It’s a good, strong indicator that people took care of themselves during the holidays.
“Next week we’ll see some great competition and we look forward to continuing to evolve and handle the challenges that are yet to come.”
The Razorbacks begin their 2021 indoor season on Saturday with the Arkansas Invitational, a scored meet among seven schools. The Razorbacks will host Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Harding, Oklahoma, UA-Pine Bluff and UA-Little Rock inside Randal Tyson Track Center.
Club Olympia swimmers make waves
Club Olympia Swim team members took part in two competitions last weekend in Fishers. Fishers was one of the regional sites for the 18-and-under National Championships.
Brady Beyer, a 15-year-old sophomore at Columbus East, won the 200-yard breaststroke and 100 breaststroke for the Fishers site. He had six top-five finishes and made the finals in all eight of his events.
Nalanie Cortez, a 15-year-old sophomore at Columbus North, won the 200 butterfly and 100 freestyle for the Fishers site. She had five top-five finishes and made the finals in all six of her events.
Meanwhile, several other Club Olympia swimmers competed in the Santa Claus Classic, also at Fishers, against clubs from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.
