On March 24, the Soo Locks in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan opened for the season.
Our church building is just two blocks south of the Locks. The town was buzzing. Literally. News crews were here. Parking spaces were at a premium. For the first time in more than a year, the observation deck at the Locks Park was full of people. Freighters were in line to lock through. And overhead, a Coast Guard helicopter was coming in so low that our church offices were vibrating!
On Facebook, I posted a short description of what was happening. Mentioning the military helicopter that flew over the church building, I used the word “chopper.” In context, people knew what I meant. But afterward, I realized there are no less than fifteen different definitions for the word “Chopper.” They are: ....
