(File photo) CHENNAI: Greater Chennai police will enforce a stricter lockdown from Monday by deploying 20,000 police personnel and re-enforcing the sector-wise lockdown. The police have registered a total of 3,980 cases for violating lockdown norms and seized 3,446 vehicles till Saturday. On Sunday, in many parts of the city the police pressed in patrol vehicles to control the crowd as they thronged the markets to make purchases throwing caution to the wind. On May 18, Greater Chennai police commissioner Shankar Jiwal had made the restrictions stringent by dividing the city into 348 sectors. E-registration was made mandatory to travel within the city and 320 checkpoints were set up. All the flyovers and bridges will remain closed.
