Dramatic pictures from Thursday night showed a large section of gorse ablaze, with reports of multiple sections of the park alight. One source said that around four or five of these fires were being reported every week, potentially diverting resources from house fires. Fife councillor Darren Watt told The Courier he would “hate” to think the fires on Thursday were another case of “wanton vandalism”. Despite stepping up patrols over the weekend to target the behaviour, police reported further vandalism, littering and fire setting. Officers from Police Scotland were called out to Lochgelly public park in relation to anti-social behaviour. The force has now appealed to local parents in Fife and asked them to find out where their child was over the weekend. Sharing images of the damage done in Lochgelly public park this weekend, officers said they found a large amount of litter as well as damage caused by fire.

Sign Up Police have promised targeted patrols in Cowdenbeath this weekend after a series a fires in the Fife town. The force took to social media to say patrols would take place in areas where anti-social behaviour has been reported previously. It comes after a group of youths were charged following damage at a war memorial in Cowdenbeath last Friday, April 2. The weekend also saw vandals damage Lochgelly United football ground, with advertising boards pulled down and a fire started.
