Rapid Covid testing centre opens at University of Suffolk

The rapid testing centre at the University of Suffolk can take nearly 700 samples a day and return results in under an hour

A rapid coronavirus testing centre has opened at the University of Suffolk for people showing no symptoms of the virus and who cannot work from home.
The centre, run by contractors Commisceo and based at the former Profiles gym at the University of Suffolk in Ipswich, can take nearly 700 samples per day and began operation on Monday, January 4.
Initially testing teachers, university students, school pupils and support staff, the centre is for Ipswich workers who cannot do their job from home and are not showing symptoms of the virus. ....

Suffolk is expected to move into tier 3 or 4 according to the Local Outbreak engagement board.
The board is made up of Suffolk’s elected leaders and was briefed yesterday by Stuart Keeble, Suffolk’s Director of Public Health
Covid-19 cases in Suffolk continue to grow and accelerate at an alarming rate.
Matthew Hicks, chair of the LOEB and leader of Suffolk County Council, said: “The situation in Suffolk is incredibly serious.
“The acceleration in the growth of cases is a very worrying trend. In Suffolk we fully anticipate being moved into Tier 3, and maybe even Tier 4 to align with other East of England counties. We await the Government’s decision on the next tier review.   ....
