Lobo Athletics Can Host Outdoor Events with Limited Capacity


ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.  New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has announced that outdoor sporting events can be hosted by The University of New Mexico with limited fan capacity. The announcement will allow Lobo Baseball to host the Air Force Falcons this Saturday in a doubleheader at Santa Ana Star Field.
It will be the first major spectator sporting event with fans in the state of New Mexico since March 11, 2020, when The Pit hosted the Wednesday sessions of the NMAA State High School Basketball Tournament. That tournament was completed without fans.
For this weekend’s games, UNM will play Air Force in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday and a single game on Sunday at noon. Gates at Santa Ana Star Field will open one hour prior to first pitch. All patrons must wear masks in the facility, abide by social distancing guidelines, and attendance will be limited to 600 fans, just under the 25% capacity threshold for outdoor events per the state health order. ....
