Homicide trial ordered in young Amish woman s disappearance March 7, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) A man has been ordered to stand trial on a homicide charge in the disappearance of a young Amish woman in Pennsylvania last summer. LNP newspaper reports that a Lancaster County judge ruled Friday that prosecutors had presented sufficient evidence for the trial of 34-year-old Justo Smoker of Paradise in the disappearance of 18-year-old Linda Stoltzfoos, who was last seen walking home from church June 21 in the Bird-in-Hand area. Prosecutors say no sign of her has been found since, and friends and family report that Stoltzfoos was happy with her life and had never expressed any desire to leave. In fact, they say, she had made plans to join others in a church youth group the day she disappeared. ....
LNP party bosses personally lobbied Opposition MPs to ditch then-leader Deb Frecklington just six months out from last year s state election and put current leader David Crisafulli up in her place. The revelation comes as the party looks set to draft in former leader and founder of the combined Liberals and Nationals outfit, Lawrence Springborg, as president. It follows former Premier Campbell Newman putting himself forward to join the executive but being rejected as too toxic , The Courier-Mail has been told. The Royal Commission into Aged Care has now delivered its final report, and its findings are an indictment of the inadequacies of the present system. The report calls for a refocus within the aged care system, placing the people receiving care at the centre. However the feasibility and affordability of the 148 recommendations are yet to be assessed. Patricia Sparrow is CEO of Aged & Community Services Australia, a peak body which represents not-for-profit members providing residential care for some 450,000 people throughout the country. Speaking to Michelle Grattan, she says she is disappointed the commmission did not provide estimates of the funding needed to reform the system. ....

Former Opposition leader and Newman Government Health Minister Lawrence Springborg said the Labor Party had learned from its mistakes of the past, having been largely in Opposition in Queensland from 1957-1989. They (Labor) learned about division and the benefit of unity, Mr Springborg said. As is almost always the case, the party is not the problem. It s personalities and I urge individuals to look beyond themselves and to the bigger picture. ....
