Last evening Rev G. Edgar Wolfe and Mr. Allen Fitch were guests at supper, at the State YMCA Boys Summer Camp at Winthrop Center where Mr. Mitch’s son was one of the campers. As a part of the evening’s program Dr. Wolfe gave a talk to the boys.

What’s so unusual about three couples taking their summer vacation together? The matter becomes unique when the six persons are all residents of Hawaii and decide they want to spend their vacation together in Auburn, Maine. Two of the couples have Maine ties and the third are native Hawaiians. The vacationers are Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Burgess, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Edward Spooner, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Figueroa. Mr. Burgess is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Burgess, Sr.  Mr. Spooner is the son of Mrs. Phylis Spooner, all of East Auburn. His wife is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Littlefield, of Bowdoin St., of Auburn. The Figueroas are native Hawalians and friends of ....

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd L. Burgess, Jr. arrived Thursday from Hawaii to spend a month with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Burgess, at Church St, East Auburn. Mr. Burgess is an officer assigned to the Island of Oahu Police Department. The couple’s last visit to Maine was in 1967

Attendance at the first two weeks of Black Mountain Summer Day Camp in Rumford has been encouraging, director Randy Dion said. There have been nearly 50 children each week. And most of them come back, for one reason or another. “My mom works, and I really like it here,” said Ryan Cote of Rumford. He enjoys swimming in the Olympic size pool, activities with other children and being with his friends, he said.
