Four charged with robbery that’s related to recent York City homicide; 2 still at large

The homicide is still being actively investigated, York City Police Lt. Daniel Lentz confirmed.
The charges are in relation to the fatal shooting of Whispering Wind Bear Spirit, 41, who was previously named Jennifer Jean Makos.
Her most recent listed address was at LifePath Christian Ministries in the 300 block of West Market Street, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.
Spirit had been staying at the home of a friend in the 300 block of Smyser Street, which is where the robbery happened and where Spirit was fatally shot, officials said.
Case dropped for U.S. Census taker accused of trespassing in northern York County

York County prosecutors have dropped the case against a U.S. Census taker who was charged with trespassing on private property in northern York County while doing her job.
Margaret C. Powell, 53 of Heidelberg Township, was scheduled to have a habeas corpus hearing Thursday morning in York County Court. Such hearings determine whether a criminal defendant is properly or wrongly charged.
But instead of holding the hearing, presiding Common Pleas Judge Gregory M. Snyder dismissed the charges, according to court records.
“We’re obviously happy with the results and we hope there’s no ill will between the parties anymore,” said Powell’s attorney, public defender Matt Sembach. “I think this was a tough lesson learned for all parties involved.

New DNA technology has revealed that an unidentified homicide victim whose skeletal remains were found in West Manchester Township in 2013 is primarily Black and could have relatives in North Carolina, according to police.
Investigators previously thought John Doe was white, perhaps Hispanic, but the DNA Doe Project determined he is of 75% sub-Saharan African descent, West Manchester Township Police announced Wednesday.
“This means our victim was black and may have had a Caucasian great-grandparent or great-great-grandparent in the family line,” a police news release states. “Results based on this new information are showing in the genealogy websites of distant family in the North Carolina area and surrounding states.”

A former York man who was staying in a local motel this weekend is now locked up, accused of beating his girlfriend and shocking her in the head with a stun gun, according to police.
Jeffrey Lynn Dorm, 60, of the 6000 block of Guyer Avenue in Philadelphia, remains in York County Prison on $100,000 bail, charged with the misdemeanors of unlawful use of an incapacitation device, simple assault and possessing a prohibited offensive weapon. He’s also charged with summary harassment.
