Following TradeMalta s annual general meeting, Liz Barbaro Sant said that internationalisation has become increasingly important for the competitiveness of enterprises of all sizes. “In today’s environment, it grants a true independence from the local market business cycles,” said Barbaro Sant.

Malta Chamber vice-president Liz Barbaro Sant has been appointed chairperson of TradeMalta, replacing Stephen Sultana who held the position for the past two years. Speaking during TradeMalta’s annual general meeting, Barbaro Sant said internationalisation has become increasingly important for the competitiveness of enterprises of all sizes.  She said that, sometimes, it might become complicated for small and medium-size companies to understand the tendencies of the world’s economy when trying to explore new commercial opportunities, and this is where TradeMalta comes in to support and assist companies of any size. Sultana said that during the past two years, TradeMalta has continued to diversify, expand and refine the range of services to industry while assisting a growing number of Malta-based companies to enter into new and emerging markets in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Next was the establishment of the Board of Management, which is tasked with advising Council on policy matters and the administration of The Chamber. Christopher Vassallo Cesareo of Domestica Ltd. was elected Deputy President, while Liz Barbaro Sant of Alberta Group and Nicholas Xuereb of Toly Products Ltd. were elected Vice-Presidents. Norman Aquilina of Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, Mark Bajada of Bajada New Energy Ltd. and Ian Casolani of Belair Properties were elected Officers on the Board of Management.

Malta Chamber publishes recommendations to improve Public Procurement process

Newsbook January 20, 2021 2:15 PM The Malta Chamber launches a report on the reform needed in Public Procurement. The document contains 36 recommendations on the entire procurement process. In continuing its call for good governance, The Malta Chamber launched a document titled The Public Procurement Reform Report. The key recommendations presented in the document relate to the Blacklisting of operators, the implementation and management of Direct Orders and the Performance of Public Contracts post-award. The Malta Chamber said that the document is the fruitful work of a working group that was formed  by individuals representing economic operators. The Chamber suggests that operators who are in breach of the law, have to be sanctioned and should not be allowed to participate in public procurement or allowed to enter into public contracts.
