Eastern Cape municipalities set to benefit from billions allocated by the national government for key water projects in the province have vowed to pull out all the stops to meet spending targets and ensure no funds are returned to the National Treasury at the end of the financial year.
The ANC Youth League and the EFF in the Alfred Nzo district have come out guns blazing in their condemnation of the provincial ANC’s move to deploy controversial former mayor Sixolile Mehlomakhulu as the new council speaker. Mehlomakhulu, a former ANC regional chair in the district, was sworn in on Tuesday, replacing Simthembile Kulu, who died in a car crash in December.
