The third phase of COVID funding for the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division will basically provide funding for sanitization supplies for the balance of the school year, trustees . . . ....
Holy Family was approved for $125,000 in funding, but only $103,000 will be new money, as this will include $22,000 left over from the Phase 2 funding. The school division will also get pandemic support for the 2021-22 school year, which includes $163,180, with $34,700 in support for PPE, for a total of $197,880. This money will be counted as revenue in this current year, but it’s a restricted fund that can’t be used until the next school year. The school division has to provide the province with a report about how they have used funding from phases 1-3 for COVID response by the end of July. ....

In making the application for funding, education director Gwen Keith said they consulted with the staff of their schools first. “With the deployment of resources, we listened to the staff to find out their concerns and where the needs are, and how we could support our staff through COVID,” she said. Wonsiak noted that the application was first narrowed in its focus to $1.5 million, and for this round of funding, the ministry decided to provide funding to support remote learning, and for cleaning and sanitizing needs in the school facilities, including equipment and supplies needed for these areas. ....

Level 3 is reduced in-class learning, where students go to class every other day, with half capacity in the building; and Level 4 is transition to alternative learning opportunities offered by the school division. “When you listen to what’s happening, there is a bit of a trend to schools moving to higher levels. Prince Albert and Regina have gone to Level 4. At this point, it’s still being left to local school divisions to determine what level they want to go to,” said director of education Gwen Keith. She added there’s always a possibility that the chief medical health officer might step in and mandate that school divisions are to go to a higher level. ....
