Kids history center in South Jersey wins Gannett Foundation grant

BURLINGTON CITY Imagine a museum in a small Colonial town where children can learn about the history of the region and its people through play and interactive educational experiences.
That is what the Burlington County Historical Society is envisioning with its plan to convert much of its property in historic Burlington City into the Children’s History Center.
That vision has been recognized by the Gannett Foundation, which awarded the society a $9,000 A Community Thrives grant to use toward accomplishing its goal. To be eligible for the grant, the society successfully raised $3,000 as a prerequisite match.
“We are grateful and encouraged about the community support we received and for the grant itself. Applying for the Thrive Grant was something new for the society. We had never done a crowd sourcing campaign before … and to our surprise we did it in one month in October thanks to very generous donors,” said museum executive director Lisa Fox-Pfeiffer. ....
