CNFI to propose energy policies in wake of blackouts

The Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI, 全國工業總會) yesterday said that it would recommend energy proposals to the government after a nationwide blackout on Thursday resulted in substantial losses to the industrial sector.
In a news release, the Taipei-based federation said that apart from the effects on the lives of the public, the power outage resulted in estimated losses of NT$10 billion (US$355.7 million) to 48 industrial parks and 521 companies nationwide.
The optoelectronics, petrochemical and steel industries took a huge hit, with petrochemical companies in Kaohsiung’s Linyuan Industrial Park (林園工業區) sustaining the biggest losses, it said.

NDC rubber-stamps NT$53.3bn KMRT line in Kaohsiung

The National Development Council (NDC) on Monday approved a project to build a Siaogang-Linyuan line on the Kaohisung Mass Rapid Transit (KMRT) system and said services on the line would be scheduled to begin in 2030.
The NDC, the nation’s top economic planning agency, said construction of the new line is scheduled to start at the end of next year, pending final approval from the Executive Yuan.
The total cost of the project is expected to be NT$53.3 billion (US$1.91 billion), it said.
The 12km line is to have seven stations linking the terminal of the Red Line to Linyuan Industrial Park (林園工業區).
