The SABC has been urged not to retrench people with a physical disability as it prepares to release 303 workers from its employ.
Blind SA has written to the SABC board and SABC’s group executive for radio Nada Wotshela asking them to retain people with disability in its employ. Blind SA CEO Jace Nair said people with disability were already disadvantaged in the formal employment market.

All 9.5m South Africans who belong to medical aid schemes will not have to pay a cent for Covid-19 vaccines.
All medical aid schemes, regardless of their membership size, are expected to cover their clients at 100% when the Covid-19 vaccine rollout finally gets under way in coming weeks. The Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) has confirmed that no medical aid member will be expected to pay for the vaccine. Only 16% of the country’s population belong to medical aid schemes.

Andile, an expatriate nurse at a hospital in the US state of Maryland, who received his first dose of the Moderna vaccine on December 21, said he was kept for 15 minutes for medical observation before he was allowed to go home.
The nurse, originally from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, told Sowetan yesterday about his experiences when he took the shot, which is being rolled out to health workers in the US.
