City leaders this evening now expressing anger and sadness about the shooting. Yes and unfortunately, police are calling this an attempted homicide and they havent released the name of the Police Officer who was shot. Hes 44. She says that he was drunk and trying to hit her. And when officers arrived, basically he attacked him. Theyre calling this attempted homicide. The officer was shot one time in the upper body is what we were told. And i want you to take a listen to what the chief had to say about this. Two of our officers were ambushed while responding to a call of a family disturbance by a coward and a convicted felon with a gun that he should never have had. Now, as you mentioned, this suspect was barricaded inside of his home for about four hours. And the reporter, henry lee, that we had on the scene earlier says that he heard a loud boom and saw some smoke. So we believe that maybe they forced him out of the home, but he is in custody at and again, Police Officers were at the hospital with this injured police officer. Know, thats foremost after the shooting. The suspect holed up inside the home and refused to come out. A San Jose Police Armored Vehicle brought merge or swat officers to the scene. A sheriffs swat team also assisted tactical negotiators tried to convince the suspect to surrender peacefully. Then at about 1220, in the afternoon, a loud boom from a police flashbang grenade was deployed, as was tear gas. I was just standing looking at what was going on. And i heard a big old boom, vito rosales was nearby when he got caught up in the aftermath of the arrest. And i thought maybe i was like a little tired because my eyes just started watering. Then the aroma of like, ammonia came over me. I was like, wow. Then i see one of the guys jump out of the van, rosales said. Its clear the police had a switch tactics. Im sure they tried talking to him and there was just no, this was the solution, you know, fire something in there. And obviously it worked. I think thats just a little too close to home
