Binghamton University students are known for going above and beyond, pushing themselves to be the best versions of themselves they can be. In turn, the University strives to make sure their accomplishments are recognized and rewarded. In the past, some student awards were given out by the dean of students and the Campus Life Office. More recently however, Vice President of Student Affairs Brian Rose and Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students Randall Edouard shared a vision for centralizing and expanding student awards. In the spring of 2020, Rose and Edouard tasked different areas within the Division of Student Affairs and other University entities to develop awards that aligned with the themes and values of their areas and the University as a whole. ....

Andrew Cuomo expands SNAP food initiative Food Pantry, Pipe Dream Archives In addition to the new Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility, students facing food insecurity can turn to the Binghamton University Food Pantry for healthy meals. Part of pre-pandemic plan to combat student hunger, aims to combat food insecurity due to COVID-19 April 19, 2021 On Oct. 16, New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) had been expanded to nearly 75,000 low-income college students. SNAP supplements the food budget of low-income individuals and families so they can purchase healthy food. New York is also offering a shortened SNAP application for individuals on fixed incomes to encourage greater enrollment by older and disabled qualifying individuals. There is a permanent expansion of the program as well as a temporary expansion. ....
Senior hosts fourth annual Pop-Up Thrift Shop Proceeds from the event will support the Nature Preserve, BU’s Food Pantry April 15, 2021 Sidney Slon/Photography Editor All of the proceeds from the fourth annual Pop-Up Thrift Shop will be donated directly to the Nature Preserve and the Binghamton University Food Pantry. This year, College-in-the-Woods Dining Center will once again be converted into a secondhand store in order to raise funds for the Binghamton University Food Pantry and Nature Preserve. The Pop-Up Thrift Shop, run by Jacob Kerr, a senior majoring in science communications, has for the past three years fundraised on behalf of the Nature Preserve, raising about $1,000 each time. In the past, its funds have been used to treat the hemlock trees of the Nature Preserve to protect them from a species of destructive invasive insect. This year, proceeds from the shop will be split equally between BU’s Food Pantry, which will use them ....
