Image courtesy Universal Hub On Monday, all eleven Massachusetts members of the Electoral College cast their votes for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris during an hour-long ceremony in the House chamber that lacked the pomp and circumstance of previous years. One of the 11 electors was Linda Monteiro, a longtime Dorchester resident, City of Boston employee, and first-generation Cape Verdean-American. Monteiro was born in Boston and grew up in Connecticut before returning to attend Northeastern University and settling in the Bowdoin-Geneva area of Dorchester, where she has lived with her family for the last 27 years.

NICOLE LaCHAPELLE Published: 12/14/2020 8:42:32 PM When Easthampton Mayor Nicole LaChapelle was casting her ballot for President-elect Joe Biden Monday afternoon along with 10 other Massachusetts electors, she was wearing a piece of jewelry that belonged to three generations of women in her family as a reminder to herself how far women in this country have come in the past century since gaining the right to vote. “I wanted to stand on the shoulders of women in my family, but also all of the hundreds of thousands of women over the last 100 years that insisted that women should have the vote, in various forms,” she added. “And also, not just the vote but having equity in our political process.”

Massachusetts officially goes for Biden and Harris

Elector Linda Monteiro of Dorchester formally nominates Biden and Harris. The Electoral College of Massachusetts gathered in the State House today and officially cast its 11 votes for Joe Biden for president and Kamala Harris for vice president. Before voting, the 11-member college voted for Kate Donaghue of Westborough as its president, Thomas Larkin of Bedford as its vice president, Joseph Kelly of Hingham as its secretary and Jay Manuel Rivera of Lawrence. After Donaghue s election, Secretary of State Bill Galvin, who had called the college to order, yielded the podium to Donaghue Donaghue said she was proud to vote for a man of character and empathy, who will restore respect to the office of the presidency.
