An application to rezone part of 20 acres in southwest Peachtree City for 308 apartments is off the table at least for now.
Rezoning applicant Nathan Dockery has withdrawn the request for the City Council to authorize changing the General Industrial and LUC zoning on the Widget Drive property to a Limited Use Commercial zone.
That change would accommodate a first phase of eight 3-story buildings housing 10,000 square feet of retail space and the rest in what were described as 1-,2- and 3-bedroom luxury apartments with rents starting at $1,500 a month.
Future phases included a restaurant site and a larger commercial area. The property is just northwest of the Ga. Highway 74 South intersection with TDK Boulevard. ....

Despite having been stripped of their voting power by the City Council, four members of the Planning Commission and an alternate gave the equivalent of a no-confidence no-vote Monday night to a 20-acre rezoning request.

The proposal by property owner Mike Hyde included a first-phase $80 million construction of 308 apartments and a 2-acre central park on a portion of a 20-acre site in south Peachtree City. Later phases would bring an upscale restaurant, some mixed-use retail residential and possible commercial and office units. ....

Preventing unintended residential density is the purpose of two proposed changes to zoning rules likely to be approved Thursday night by the Peachtree City Council.
Plus, the City’s Planning Commission will be saying goodbye to all public hearings and changing to less formal public workshops to allow more input from residents, particularly on rezoning issues.
In the same meeting, the city is buying a custom-built firetruck for nearly $650,000, which is a pretty good price and already in the city budget, according to the city’s fire chief, Joe O’Conor. More on that below. ....
