Archive project for our local Zimbabwe congregation, founded in 1932

When I became secretary general for my congregation, the Little Children of the Blessed Lady (LCBL) in Zimbabwe, I realized the need for archives. I like history and particularly the history of our congregation. Founded in 1932 by Archbishop Aston Ignatius Chichester, a Jesuit, we were the first of other local congregations. His idea to invite African girls to religious life was thought to be foolish and doomed to failure by most Europeans and government officials. Admittedly, it was a challenging task, introducing a mode of life completely different from anything imagined by young African women and their parents, but he persevered and so we have our 198 sisters living in 46 houses in four dioceses of Zimbabwe. ....

2 Catholic priests die in Lilongwe Archdiocese

Lilongwe Archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Malawi has lost two priests on Saturday.

First announcement from the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) was about the death of Fr. Vincent Epulani who was serving at Namitete parish.
ECM secretary general Fr. Henry Saindi said Fr. Epulani had a sudden death at the parish and that his burial would be on Monday.
The cause for his death has not been disclosed.
Barely a few hours after this announcement, the ECM gave another sudden report of the death of Fr. Martin Mthumba who was recovering well from Covid-19 at Bwaila hospital. ....

Stop Protecting Thieves In Your Government-Bishop Mtumbuka Tells Chakwera


The Catholic Church in Malawi has directly challenged President Lazarus Chakwera to stop protecting public officers and politicians in governing parties who steal public funds at the expense of the poor majority.
Head of the Karonga Diocese Bishop Martin Mtumbuka was speaking during a funeral mass of the late Archbishop Gervazio Ziyaye of the Lilongwe Archdiocese at the Civo stadium in Lilongwe.
“You must learn from the legacy of late Archbishop Tarsizio Ziyaye by practicing decisive leadership in tackling corruption and ending poverty. We need to stop protecting thieves. We shouldn’t bend laws to favour crooks. Malawi is one of the poorest countries and we cannot continue like this,” he said. ....
