station, reached into a jacket pocket, grabbed a 9 millimeter handgun and opened fire. we are learning that bedell s parents told a california sheriff that they were worried about their son s deteriorating mental condition. they told that sheriff that he recently purchased a gun. that same sheriff says bedell has been missing since january 18th. when john patrick bedell approached the officers near the entrance to the metro, police say there was thing suspicious about him, calm, well dressed and said nothing before pulling out a gun and pulling the trigger. he was well armed. i will tell you that he had two nine millimeter semi-automatic weapons and many magazines. reporter: three officers fired back hitti bedell in the head and arm, all captured by a nearby surveillance camera. it confirms what we were saying that he acted alone. reporter: the two wounded officers were taken to george washington university hospital where they were treated and released. investigators
