Eastern Cape Health MEC fired over R10m Mandela funeral fraud saga
Eastern Cape Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba is one of several suspects implicated in corruption charges related to the funeral of Nelson Mandela
The Eastern Cape’s Premier Oscar Mabuyane has announced he has decided to axe his Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba. This comes after she was charged with fraud and corruption relating to monies allegedly taken from the funeral of late President Nelson Mandela in 2013.
“I have taken a decision to relieve Ms Sindiswa Gomba of her duties as the Member of Executive Council (MEC) for the Department of Health. The decision to relieve Ms Gomba as MEC will allow her time and space to attend to the case against her. This decision is in the best interest of the MEC and the provincial government,” Mabuyane announced on Thursday, February 18, 2021.
