Roma Downey, actress, author and producer, is enjoying a runaway hit with The Bible: Epic Mini-Series, which aired on the History Channel in March, and with its release to DVD has become the top-selling TV series of all time.
Born in Derry, Roma, who produced The Bible (she also plays Mother Mary in the series) with her husband Mark Burnett of Survivor fame, received a classical training at the Drama Studio London and toured the U.S. with the Abbey Players in Playboy of the Western World. She went on to act on Broadway, but it was on television that Roma would make her name: first as Jackie Kennedy in A Woman Named Jackie, which won a 1992 Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries, and then as the angel Monica in Touched by an Angel, which premiered on CBS in September 1994 and ran for nine seasons. ....

Roma Downey talks 'Resurrection,' coping with grief: 'It was my faith that kept me from sinking to my knees'

EXCLUSIVE: Roma Downey has plenty of reasons to be thankful this year.
The actress and producer is finally releasing Resurrection, an epic biblical movie that follows the immediate aftermath of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. The 60-year-old and her husband, film executive Mark Burnett, were originally hoping to release the feature-length film for Christmas last year. But as theaters remained closed amid the coronavirus pandemic, the couple decided to partner up with new streaming platform discovery+ in time for Easter.
Downey, best known for starring in the hit ‘90s series Touched by an Angel, has dedicated her career to releasing faith-based and family friendly programming through her production company LightWorkers. The Bible miniseries, which was released in 2013, earned three Primetime Emmy nominations and drew more than 100 million viewers over its 10-week run on the History Channel, Deadline.com reported. ....

Roma Downey received the first ever Irish Diaspora Award from the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) and the government of Ireland in Dublin on April 9 for her “extraordinary achievements and vision as a producer and an actress alongside her charity and humanitarian work worldwide.”
Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, the youngest of six, Roma and her husband, Mark Burnett, the British-born television producer she married in 2007, live in Malibu, California with Reilly, her daughter from her marriage to director David Anspaugh, and James and Cameron, Mark’s sons.
