Army, Coast Guard COVID-19 warriors humbled by award

December 12, 2020 Three Barbados Defence Force (BDF) soldiers and sailors expressed humility and dedication to duty on receiving Independence national honours for their service on the frontlines of the COVID-19 lockdown in its early months. Coast Guard Lieutenant Anderson Goodridge, Captain Donville Dash and Lieutenant Rudolph Morris, who with the help of their teams in liaison with Ministry of Health officials received the Barbados Star of Gallantry for leading the testing of visitors on cruise ships that were docked on the island as well as contact tracing on shore. In a brief media conference at BDF headquarters St Ann’s Fort on Friday, Lt Goodridge, a member of a mobile testing team from the Ministry of Health, said the experience of testing passengers and crew on the various cruise ships that were docked on the island, sometimes as much as 15 ships being docked at once, is an experience he will never forget.

During a ceremony in the Officer’s Mess at St Ann’s Fort, the Garrison, St Michael, Captain Donville Dash, Lieutenant (Coast Guard) Anderson Goodridge and Lieutenant Rudolph Morris, who have more than 80 years’ military experience between them with backgrounds in health and environmental health, spoke about their work.
