Federal Government Announces Independent Review of Military Misconduct
At a virtual press conference, Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan announces that former Supreme Court justice Louise Arbour will lead an independent, external comprehensive review into harassment and sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces. The review will examine the policies, procedures, programs, practices, and culture within the military. Arbour will also provide recommendations on setting up an independent external reporting system. The federal government also confirms that a new internal organization will be led by Lieutenant-General Jennie Carignan in her new role as chief of professional conduct and culture. The minister is joined by his parliamentary secretary Anita Vandenbeld, deputy defence minister Jody Thomas, and senior military officials.
